The WA branch of AAAS is pleased to be supporting the Student Video Competition and the Student workshop programs. Our local committee are delighted to support these endeavours in acknowledgement of the important role that students play in animal science research, and in the future of our animal industries. Great science is meaningless without good communication to stakeholders, and in supporting the Student Workshop and Video Competition we will equip our future animal science leaders with the skills needed to get maximum impact for their research.

Join the AAAS to connect with practicing animal scientists throughout Australia and internationally

MLA’s purpose is to foster the long-term prosperity of the Australian red meat and livestock industry.

We do this by:

  • delivering research and development that contributes to producer profitability, sustainability and global competitiveness.
  • growing demand for red meat in Australia and overseas

MLA is the declared industry marketing body and the industry research body under sections 60(1) and 60(2) of the Australian Meat and Live-stock Industry Act 1997.

Funding comes from transaction levies paid on livestock sales, the Australian government and voluntary contributions from industry partners.

MLA is a service provider to the red meat industry, not an industry representative body or lobby group.

The WA Livestock Research Council (WALRC) is an initiative of MLA to improve consultation with levy payers and industry stakeholders for the WA Agricultural region and southern rangelands.

The primary task of the producer members of the Council is to review R&D project proposals that come in under the R&D project call and identify those proposals that best respond to the needs of southern region WA red meat producers. The great strength of WALRC is the forum it offers to connect the state’s red meat research community with the producers they service.
